Crawford denies resignation report

Outgoing Member of Parliament for East Rural St Andrew Damion Crawford has denied reports that he has resigned from the People’s National Party (PNP).

News broke early this morning that Crawford had walked away from the party in a huff after being over-looked for the right to represent the PNP in Northern Trelawny.

A senior official of the PNP told our news centre that reports of the resignation were correct but did not say why Crawford had decided to call it a day.

But a short while ago Crawford told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that he remains a member of the PNP still committed to the cause of the party.

According to Crawford, he is heading to St Thomas today to campaign with the party’s candidate Marsha Francis who is trying to wrest the Western St Thomas seat for the Jamaica Labour Party’s James Robertson.

Crawford is without a seat to contest in the February 25 General Election after PNP delegates rejected him in the East Rural St Andrew constituency. He was touted as a replacement for Patrick Atkinson in North Trelawny, but the party instead selected John-Paul White.

With White resigning yesterday, after becoming embroiled in a tax controversy surrounding his company Equilibrio Solutions Jamaica Limited, some Comrades expected Crawford to get the nod, but the party instead opted for agronomist Victor Wright as its standard bearer.
