Rudolph Brown/Photographer Derrick and Karleen Smith (centre), with their sons from left: Derrick Jr (aka Dino), Jay and Duane Smith, made it a family affair on Nomination Day, Tuesday.

It was a family affair for Derrick Smith as he ventured out to be nominated at the Pembroke Hall Community Centre yesterday.

Smith, who was nominated two hours after his challenger, Donovan Isaacs of the People's National Party (PNP), came to the nomination centre with not only his wife, Karleen, but his three sons as well.

Even his eldest son, Derrick jnr (Dino), an airline captain, came back to earth to support his dad.

So did his second son, Jay, as well as his last son, Duane, who is walking in his father's footsteps, and is the councillor for the Chancery Hall division in the Kingston and St Andrew corporation.

With Isaacs, a first-time entrant in representational politics, threatening to send the veteran parliamentarian into retirement, Smith expressed confidence that he is headed for a seventh straight victory.

"I am very confident of another victory," he said.
