PNP intensifying activities to target youths
With 14 days to go before the general elections, the People's National Party (PNP) is intensifying its activities to target youth voters.
The PNP has announced two major events to target young people in central and eastern Jamaica.
The party says it will host two forums in St Elizabeth and St Andrew under its Step-Up Youths series.
The meeting in St Elizabeth will take place at Junction at six o'clock this afternoon and the St Andrew is scheduled for six o'clock tomorrow afternoon at Jamaica College.
In a Gleaner-Bill Johnson Poll released last October, more than half of Jamaicans between 18 and 34 years old said they would not vote in any upcoming general election.
In the 18 to 24 year old group, 47 per cent said they would not vote, while eight per cent were undecided for a combined total of 55 per cent who would not vote at that time.
The February 25 elections will use the last voters' list released last November.
The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) says youths make up 72 per cent of the persons who were added to that list.
