Planning Institute says Jamaica employed more people during last quarter of 2015

The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) says Jamaica employed more people during the last quarter of 2015.
The PIOJ said from October to December 2015, over 20,000 more persons were employed than in the same period in 2014.
This brought the number of employed persons up to just over 1.2 million persons and pushed unemployment down to 13.5 per cent.
PIOJ president Collin Bullock says the positive employment numbers were as a result of nine industry groups which recorded higher employment levels.
The Hotels & Restaurants, Real Estate, Renting & Business Services, Wholesale & Retail, Repair of Motor Vehicle and Equipment sectors recorded higher employment.
Jamaica grew by 0.8 per cent in 2015 up from .5 per cent in 2014.
PIOJ president Collin Bollock says he expects the economy should grow by up to 1.5 per cent during the fiscal year ending March 2016.
