Truckers' Association concerned about proposed toll rates

Published:Thursday | March 17, 2016 | 12:00 AM

President of the All Island Truckers' Association Errol Hutchinson is expressing concern that if implemented, the proposed toll rates for the North-South link of Highway 2000 could negatively impact its members.

The highway runs from Caymanas in St Catherine to Mammee Bay in St Ann.

There are multiple exits on the highway.

However, it is being proposed that class one vehicles wishing to travel from Caymanas to Mammee Bay be charged a rate of $1,220.

It's proposed that Class Two pay $2,450, Class Three a rate of $3,700 and the proposed rate for Class Four is $600 for the same journey.

Trucks fall in Category Three.

The association's president says he has taken note of the proposed rate increases, especially the charge for trucks.

He says a meeting has been called for this evening for the association’s membership to discuss the matter and come to a joined position.

Members of the public have until next Monday, March 21 to submit in writing their views on the proposed toll charges.
