A taxi driver who operates on the Comfort to Mandeville route in Manchester escaped serious injuries ‎this morning after his vehicle crashed during a robbery attempt.

According to the Manchester Police, around 6 a.m., the driver picked up two men posing as passengers along Caledonia Road‎.

One of  the men soon after held the driver at gunpoint and demanded money.

The police say the driver then lost control of the car and it collided into a concrete column killing one of the hoodlums.

The other gunman fled the scene, but was subsequently held and taken into custody.

The taxi driver was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries and then released.

According to the police, there is no evidence that the taxi driver was specifically targeted.

They say it appears as though he was an easy target travelling alone at day break.
