'Compassion is our game' - Service for people with special needs launched in Clarendon

Cutting Edge Oasis Medi and Surgi Centre, located in Cedars, Mocho, Clarendon, has added another arm to the services provided in the parish.

Persons who are physically challenged can now be transported in comfort, along with an aide, to an appointment.

Manager of Cutting Edge Ambulance Service, Dian Barnett, said there is an overwhelming need for such a service in Clarendon.

"We carried out an informal survey and discovered the hardships faced by those who are challenged in one way or the other to go about their business," she said.

Barnett pointed out that depending on where persons wanted to go, it could be costly to charter a taxi, and even then, she said, the missing element in the taxis would be the specialised care, which comes with what Cutting Edge is offering.

"Compassion is the name of our game. Of course, we don't want to run at a loss, but we are not in the business of adding to our clients' stress," said the former Grace Thrillers singer.

She said the service was non-emergency, medical and leisure transportation to individuals with special needs.

MAIN TARGETS

According to Barnett, the main targets were seniors, the disabled, and those persons with difficulty moving around.

"It is obvious that there is no such facility and service in May Pen, except for the public facility, which is limited where meeting the transport needs of these individuals is concerned. We have found that this service is very welcomed and was longed for by nursing homes and individual seniors," Barnett told The Gleaner.

The aim is to provide transportation and wheelchair service to places such as hospitals, labs, banks, and lawyer's offices.

"The customers' comfort and hassle-free commute to their destinations punctually is our focus," Barnett said.
