A man was detained following the killing of a snack vendor last night in Annotto Bay, St Mary.

According to reports, 21-year-old Jermaine Lakeman was found suffering from gunshot wounds at his home in the Fort George area of the town about 7:30 p.m. after residents alerted police to explosions.

Lakeman was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His death marks a surge in killings in the parish since the start of the year, including those of US missionaries Randy Hentzel and Harold Nichols, and 16-year-old schoolboy Rushane Murray, who was killed last week.

Two students have been charged for Murray’s death, while the investigation into the killings of the American volunteers is ongoing.
