There were heightened concerns in sections of Clarendon last evening as several persons, including children, turned up at public health facilities with what appeared to be symptoms of the Zika virus.

Mayor of May Pen Scean Barnswell told the Gleaner-Power 106 news centre that he had received several reports that persons were showing up with rashes, high temperature, red eyes and other symptoms.

It is reported that Lionel Town, Water Lane and Nineteen Mile were some of the areas impacted.

Barnswell, who is also councillor for the Hayes Division, says he is concerned about the new development and the impact it could have on those communities.

He says the Clarendon Health Department has been made aware of the situation.
