GSAT FEATURE- Allman Town Primary principal leads by example: celebrate GSAT success after enrolling son at Allman Town Primary

Kandi-Lee Crooks-Smith, Principal at Allman Town Primary,does not regret her decision to move her son from a prep school and enroll him at Allman Town Primary.

"My husband said to me what is at that school that is not at your school because you are the best Principal and that was a jerking question so of course I dug deep and thought about it...and he said you have the best school so I don't see any reason why our child cannot go to your school... and so January morning he was enrolled right here ," she told The Gleaner.

Her son, Jo-nathan Smith, who will be attending Calabar High based on his Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) results, admitted that he was a bit apprehensive about the change to a primary school but quickly adjusted to the new environment.

"At that time I was fully English speaking so everybody thought I was from foreign and I was all over the place so when I came in it felt weird but I adjusted to it overtime," he said.

Jo-nathan indicated that he has enjoyed interacting with his teachers and the opportunity to participate in more sports activities in keeping with his athletic abilities.

Crooks-Smith who is 2015/2016 LASCO/Ministry of Education Principal of the Year, argued that enrolling her son at Allman Town Primary has given her a new perspective on school leadership.

"I tell people that he inspires me because when I compare how he learns and what was available at the prep school and trust me we have way more going for us...and when I see the way he learns in terms of being hands on it challenges me because I start to say to myself how many of my children here learns the way he does and I am not meeting their needs so I use him almost like a benchmark to see what I need to improve on," she explained.
