Tai-Rique Ellis is tops at Tomlinson's Christian Academy

Last year, Tai-Rique Ellis failed in his attempt to be the top spelling bee student at Tomlinson's Christian Academy and Children's Centre, beaten by Jadaqae Johnson, who eventually finished third in The national finals of the Gleaner's Spelling Bee competition.

But with the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) no one or nothing could prevent him emerging the top student and this he did with scores of language arts 100, science 98, mathematics 97, social studies 97 and communication task 92.

Expectations

"I expected good results because I have always performed well in class and in spelling bee," said an elated Tai-Rique.

He attributed his performance to his continued studying, and help and motivation from his mother, Nadgra-Lee Murphy Ellis and class teacher Meleithia Lawrence.

"Thanks to all of them for helping me to reach this far and I promise that I will keep reaching my goals."

Tai-Rique goes to Campion College in September and believes it is the right choice.

His favourite television show is Law and Order as he wants to be a lawyer.

Thrilled

His mother was thrilled.

"I am elated, I am happy and extremely proud of him and hope he continues to do his best," Murphy Ellis told The Gleaner.

Lawrence describes Tai-Rique as a well-rounded students.

"He is disciplined, dependable, fun, trouble maker at times - he gives me trouble (laughs) but you can't have a dull moment around Tai-Rique Ellis," Lawrence said.

"When he's not there everything seems gloomy, he's the lively person in the class, he makes everyone laugh."
