Rotary's top man to visit Jamaica

John Germ, president of Rotary International, will make a historic four-day visit to Jamaica, starting next Wednesday.

This will be the first time in local Rotarian history that a sitting president will visit Jamaica

During his four-day stay, Germ, who has been a Rotary since 1976, will participate in events including the official handing over of microscopic equipments, valued at more than

$10 million to the ophthalmology department at Cornwall Regional Hospital.

He will also be guest of honour at a special banquet to be held at Hilton Rose Hall Resort, Montego Bay.

He is expected to participate in the installation ceremony of incoming district governor Haresh Ramchandani, at which delegates from the 83 Rotary Clubs in district 7020 will be in attendance.

Germ, an engineer, is the chairman of the board and CEO of Campbell and Associates Incorporated, an engineering consulting firm.

According to the Rotary International website, Germ has served the organisation as vice president, director, foundation trustee and vice chair, chair of Rotary's US$200 Million Challenge, and Rotary International president's aide. He is a recipient of Rotary's Service Above Self Award and The Rotary Foundation's Citation for Meritorious Service and Distinguished Service Award.

In 1970 he was recognised as Tennessee Young Man of the Year, Engineer of the Year, and he was Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year in 1992.
