Government planning to improve capacity at Black River Hospital

Health Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton, has indicated that there are plans to improve bed capacity at the Black River Hospital.

Tufton says the demand on the type C facility in the St Elizabeth capital has far exceeded the just under 100 beds it was built to accommodate.

As a result, he says the institution has been using makeshift arrangements.

However, the Health Minister says in four weeks a number of temporary arrangements will be put in place to increase the bed count at the Black River Hospital in order to help ease the overcrowding.

He says over the medium to long term arrangements will be made to improve additional facilities in patient care and other critical areas that will enhance the service delivery of the Hospital.
