Mark Golding wins PNP's St Andrew South chairmanship

Opposition Senator Mark Golding has been declared the winner of the election for a new chairman for the People's National Party's St Andrew South after securing an overwhelming 70 votes to Colin Campbell's  eight.

A total of 79 delegates voted; however, one of the votes was spoiled.

Golding is now set to replace Dr Omar Davies who has opted to step down.

After securing victory, a jubilant Golding sought to assure delegates and his supporters that he will be helping to continue the process of renewal.

"I thank you for your overwhelming support. I thank you  for voting with integrity," he said.

Golding, who was endorsed by Dr Davies for the post, also thanked Campbell for running a clean campaign, as he noted that there was no evidence of violence although passions were sometimes high.

Campbell, who was confident of victory going into election, said he wished Golding well.

"The delegates have spoken," he said.

Davies still remains the member of parliament for the constituency.
