Atlanta mayor wants closer working relations with Jamaica

Atlanta Mayor, Kasim Reed, wants to broaden the relationship that exists between Montego Bay and Atlanta, to include a closer working relationship with the Government.

In a meeting with Juliet Holness, wife of Prime Minister Andrew Holness, during her recent trip to the city, Reed said representatives from Atlanta "are really excited about the opportunity of engaging with the Government of Jamaica."

Holness visited the mayor at City Hall during her five-day official visit and he said that, going forward, he would be identifying areas in which Jamaica and Atlanta could work closer together for their mutual benefit.

"Atlanta has the third-largest concentration of Fortune 500 businesses in the United States, we have the busiest airport in the world, and I think our connectivity with Jamaica certainly benefits both of our economies," he added.

Holness said she would convey the mayor's wishes to the Prime Minister, and commended Reed on the growth and expansion of the city.

She was accompanied to City Hall by Jamaica's Honorary Consul to Atlanta, Jewel Scott, and president of the Atlanta Jamaican Association, Alan Stewart.
