JPS getting compensation claims following islandwide power blackout
The Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS) says it has started to receive compensation claims for damaged appliances and equipment following Saturday’s all-island power blackout.
Director of Corporate Communications at the JPS, Winsome Callum has not given a value of the claims.
However, she said each will be investigated and the claimant notified of the findings.
Callum also made it clear that the company does not deal with claims for inconvenience.
The JPS blackout lasted for several hours on Saturday evening.
The company reported that the outage occurred after a team carrying out maintenance work failed to adhere to the established procedures.
It says this resulted in the worst type of electrical fault on a power system.
Two employees have since been suspended.
