James Peart has found his career
Western Bureau:
James Peart, student of the Manning's School in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, wants to pursue a career in dentistry, and his recent successful acquiring of 10 grade ones in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations has set him on the path to accomplishing that goal.
"As a career, I would love to pursue oral and maxillofacial surgery. As a child I was always confused about what I wanted to do as a career, but recently, in the last six months, I found this career," said 16-year-old James. "It is a specialty of dentistry, where you have a dual degree in medicine and dentistry. This career path excites me, and also the many benefits it will have in the future."
James has already demonstrated his determination to succeed, given that he studied hard in preparation to sit 12 subjects during the CSEC exams, namely biology, chemistry, physics, English A, English B, mathematics, integrated science, human and social biology, social studies, principles of business, Spanish, and information technology.
Of the 12, he got grade ones in all except information technology, for which he received a grade two result, and integrated sciences, which went ungraded due to issues with the submission of his school-based assessment for that subject.
"My study habits included waking up early in the morning, because that is the best time for me to study," said James. "I would wake up at 4 in the morning and start studying. I would sacrifice my lunch time to study or do some previous past papers. Most times I studied by myself; sometimes I had group studying with some of my classmates or with some of my friends from different classes."
James, who wants to attend sixth form at Manning's and later go to the University of the West Indies, admitted that he was ecstatic when he got his CSEC results.
"To be honest, I was quite surprised, but I was elated at the same time. I was jumping up and down and running all over the place shouting 'yes, yes, I finally did it'," James admitted with a laugh.
