The St Catherine Parish Council has decided to arm its Municipal Police with pepper spray.
The decision was made at the council's monthly general meeting yesterday.
Chairman of the St Catherine parish council, Norman Scott, says the pepper spray would be given to members who have been sworn in as Special District Constables.
He says the Ministry of National Security is being contacted to secure permission to arm the members with pepper spray.
Scott says there have been several attacks on the Municipal Police who serve documents and enforce the Municipal Act in St Catherine.
The Municipal Police are responsible for parking, vending and other functions which fall under the parish council.
