ECC gives furniture to infant school

Majesty Gardens Infant School received a donation of classroom furniture from the Early Childhood Commission (ECC) in an official presentation ceremony on October 12. This was made possible through a contribution of US$500.00 from Michelle Grant-Pixely, a Jamaican residing in the United States. The donation is intended to support an early childhood institution and provide assistance towards meeting the requirements for certification.

The institution received five desks and 20 chairs, providing much-needed support to the institution in adhering to Standard 5 of the Commission's standards for the operation and management of early childhood institutions.This standard places emphasis on institutions' provision of indoor and outdoor equipment, furnishings and supplies that are safe, child-friendly and promote optimal development of children.

Present at the handover ceremony were: Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller, who is also member of parliament for Majesty Gardens; Greta Bogues, chairperson of the Majesty Gardens school board and St Andrew Settlement; . Trisha Williams-Singh, chairperson of the board of commissioners at the ECC, along with members of staff from the commission.

 

ONE STEP CLOSER

 

Simpson Miller commended the much-needed classroom furniture and mentioned that this donation would take the one step closer towards obtaining a certificate of registration.

"I encourage the community to continue to protect this school and the children who benefit from it. Let us ensure that the children at the early childhood level are provided with the requisite support in order for them to realise their full potential," Simpson Miller added.
