When it comes to the best of all worlds - bargains, shopping and family fun - Market at the Lawn provides patrons who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of shopping around town with a one-stop shopping experience.

A cross between a farmers' market and an upscale flea market, this open-air event, held seasonally on the lawns of Devon House in St Andrew, is a perfect start to the Christmas holiday season.

With a wide variety of items to choose from, shoppers can find great local gift ideas for those on their Christmas lists. The event, conceptualised by Kaili McDonnough-Scott, seeks to give Jamaicans a chance to shop for novelties at reduced costs - all in one spot.

INCREDIBLE PRODUCTS

"We put on Market at the Lawn every year as it is a way to showcase what the Jamaican marketplace has to offer," McDonnough-Scott said.

"We have so many different artisans who make such incredible products, and by having Market at the Lawn, we are helping them to get their products into the hands of everyday Jamaicans. I believe firmly in buying locally and the gifts that you can get at Market at the Lawn are more like keepsake items," she said.

According to McDonnough-Scott, with Christmas just around the corner, Jamaicans have begun shopping for the perfect gifts for family and friends. Prices, she said, are kept low and most of the vendors are repeat participants.

This year, the event will be held on the south lawn of Devon House and will be free to the public. Patrons are being invited to come out, support the local businesses and get their Christmas shopping done early.

Secured parking will be provided for patrons and parents do not have to worry about children getting bored as there will be bounce-a-bouts and face-painting to keep them occupied.

"We just want persons to come out and shop for one-of-a-kind items and buy local," added Annette McDonnough, one of the event's organisers.

Market at the Lawn will take place on November 27, December 4,11 and 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
