Arising from public enquiries, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security on Tuesday advised that Christmas Day - a public holiday - will be observed on Monday, December 26, 2016, while Boxing Day will be observed on Tuesday, December 27, 2016.

The ministry said this was in accordance with the Holidays (Public General) Act, which stipulates that when Christmas Day (December 25) falls on a Sunday, then the 26th and the 27th of December are to be observed as public holidays.

The ministry also advised that employees who work on the public holidays (i.e., December 26, 2016 and December 27, 2016) will be entitled to payment at 'double time' rates as provided for under the Minimum Wage Orders or such other rates specified in their collective labour agreements or employment contracts (where applicable).
