450 killed in domestic disputes over six years

More than 450 persons have been killed in domestic disputes across the island in the past six years

Statistics released by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) show that 290 were males and 166 were females.

The disclosure comes amid a spate of violent attacks against women across the island in recent weeks.

In the past week, three women were allegedly killed by their male companions in separate incidents in St Andrew and Hanover.

The JCF data show that since the start of this year, 24 women have been killed in domestic disputes.

This represents a 60 per cent increase over the 15 women killed in domestic disputes over the corresponding period last year.

The JCF data also shows that 38 men were killed in domestic quarrels this year, down from the 46 cases recorded last year.

The police say 10 domestic murders were recorded in St James and eight each in Kingston and Clarendon.
