UPS continues to bolster its operations
No matter where you are in Jamaica, United Parcel Service (UPS) can deliver to your address. UPS can deliver to 80 per cent of the planet within 48 hours, so if you live somewhere else, it is still likely that UPS can find you to drop off or pick up packages.
"UPS began as a small delivery packaging company that has grown into one of the world's largest package delivery companies and a provider of supply-chain management solutions. UPS' primary business is the time-definited delivery of packages and documents worldwide," said Rachel Matthews, Jamaica country manager of UPS Americas region.
Tara Courier Services Limited, recognised widely as the number-one courier service in Jamaica, is the authorised service contractor for the company on the island.
Matthews said the objective is to ensure that all packages are delivered within the time that is promised. As one of the world's largest package-delivery companies, UPS has all the tools for all your local and international shipping needs. It does not matter if it is a single document or a large piece of furniture, the company can import or export your packages to and from destinations around the world.
"In every connection we make, we go further so our customers can do more. It is important that we deliver on our promise that has made us one of the largest in the world. Time and money are finite so we understand how valuable our customers are," Matthews said.
Another component of UPS' operation in Jamaica is its supply-chain solutions that offer logistics, air and freight services, customs broking and warehousing, among other services. "We handle major contracts and our clients trust us to handle their volume in an efficient manner. They can literally give us a purchase order and we will take care of the rest," Matthews said.
ANOTHER ASPECT
Another aspect of the business operation in Jamaica is spare parts logistics, in which UPS manages spare parts for major international companies.
UPS in Jamaica also has an effective philanthropic arm that is made possible through the UPS Foundation. For more than 60 years, The UPS Foundation has built a legacy as a caring and responsible corporate citizen, supporting programmes that provide long-term solutions to community needs.
Since 1951, The UPS Foundation has maintained a tradition of providing support through grant programmes and initiatives that help improve the quality of life in communities where UPS employees live and work.
"To us, giving means more than writing a cheque. It means combining employees' skills, passion and time with our logistics expertise, transportation assets and charitable donations to make a measurable difference in society," Matthews said.
In 2015, The UPS Foundation granted $54.7 million to non-profit agencies.
