Justice Minister Delroy Chuck has admitted that there are still challenges in safeguarding human rights but says the government is committed to upholding the rule of law.

He was reacting to the 2016 Amnesty International report on Jamaica which found that unlawful killings and extrajudicial executions continue to be a problem here.

In the report released yesterday, Amnesty said children continue to be detained in violation of international standards while there's a lack of legal protection from discrimination for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and intersex people.

Chuck, says the Government recognises the need for improvement.

He says a child diversion bill aimed at preventing children from being placed in adult detention centres is to go to Parliament next month.

However, he said he was not aware of any increase in discrimination against LGBT people.
