Almost 10,000 HEART Trust/NTA trainees are to benefit from a three-year Absorptive Capacity programme which gets underway today.

The Absorptive Capacity project is designed to expand access to the National Vocational Qualification of Jamaica (NVQ-J) and the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) Levels 2 to 4 certification programmes.

It’s expected to significantly boost job prospects of skilled workers and enable a more efficient workforce able to meet global labour market standards.

The programme is an initiative of the HEART Trust/NTA and the Joint Committee for Tertiary Education (JCTE).

In Year 1, it is proposed to train a total of 2,200 persons in skills which will support expansion in industry-driven areas targeted for economic growth including Business Process Outsourcing, Agriculture, Transportation and Logistics and Hospitality Services.

These and other programmes will be offered through 17 JCTE member institutions across the island.
