China endorses CMU degree programmes
Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Ruel Reid has welcomed the government of China's endorsement of the degree and diploma programmes offered by the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU).
China's Ministry of Education recently announced that the CMU was among the list of foreign universities to which it was according official recognition. This information, posted on the website http:// www.jsj.edu.cn/n1/12129.shtml, was officially conveyed in a congratulatory letter to Jamaica's Ministries of Foreign Affairs; Education, Youth and Information; and Transport and Mining by the Chinese Embassy in Kingston last Wednesday.
Reid said this was very significant development further enabling the CMU to attract foreign students.
"On the one hand, this supports our thrust for EduTourism and the earning of valuable foreign exchange and funds for further institutional development," he said. "It also suggests international acceptance and allows graduates to work in China or Chinese firms and globally."
The minister also sees the move as further promoting Jamaica as a destination for international higher education.
"Our aim is to position a liberal higher education sector that contributes to our prosperity agenda," Senator Reid added.
