Ganja stakeholders call for audit, protocol on weed-infused edibles

Stakeholders in the fledgling ganja industry are describing the move by the Justice Ministry to ban the sampling of ganja-infused edibles at entertainment events as a retrograde step.

They are suggesting instead that an audit be done on all producers and distributors of ganja-infused edibles.

They also want the government to design a framework to guide the manufacture and consumption of these products and set out a protocol for the use of raw material and processing methods.

In a release to the media this morning the ganja stakeholders said this protocol should govern the production, distribution, and sale of ganja-infused edibles.

Director of Scarce Commodity, Dr Andre Haughton, says the move is useless since many of those who sell such products are likely to ignore the ban.

The ganja stakeholders also highlight the need for a public awareness drive to prevent recurrences of irresponsible use and consumption of ganja products.

They are urging the government to pursue more dialogue and consultations to further the development of the cannabis industry, including the manufacture and distribution of ganja-infused edibles.
