Third illegal firearm seized in Rockfort since the start of this month

The police have seized yet another illegal firearm in the troubled East Kingston community of Rockfort, the third such seizure since the start of this month.

In the latest incident two females were detained after a M16 assault rifle, two magazines and 31 rounds of ammunition were found by the cops at premises on Commission Road on Tuesday.

Reports from the Elletson Road Police are that about 5:30 p.m., during a special operation, a premises was searched and the firearm and ammunition found in the ceiling of a room. 

The females were subsequently arrested. Their identities are being withheld pending further investigations.

This follows an incident, days ago when a 22-year-old man was arrested and an illegal gun reportedly taken from him after a joint police/military team was attacked in Rockfort.

The police's Corporate Communication Unit (CCU) had reported that the joint/military team was conducting an operation about 11:10 a.m. when on reaching Rockingham Road they came under gunfire. All members of the team escaped injury.

However, a service vehicle was damaged in the incident.

The CCU said one man was arrested and an Arcus 9mm pistol loaded with seven 9mm rounds seized.

In the third incident a Galil Ace 22 rifle with the insignia of the Haitian police was seized be the cops after a team came under fire in Rockfort on June 4.
