A mother’s fight to save her baby

Natalie Muir, 23, is now facing a tremendous challenge - trying to ensure that her one-year-old daughter gets a chance at life.

Her daughter, Paris Lewinson, was diagnosed with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia.

Muir shared that the only cure for the disease is a liver transplant, which is not offered in Jamaica. The baby has been admitted at a hospital in the United States, where she is scheduled to undergo the liver transplant surgery on July 7.

Muir, who will be donating a piece of her own liver, launched a crowd funder for US$1,500, saying that the money is to keep up with expenses such as diapers, wipes, food and other necessary items until her daughter has recovered and can make the trek back home to Jamaica.

"I am presently unemployed as I had to give up my job to be here with my daughter. I really do need the assistance," said Muir, who hails from Copper Wood District in Coffee Piece, Clarendon.

Muir said, that she is hopeful that everything will be all right and that things will finally get back to normal.

Rocky patch

She admitted that this is a very rocky patch, but she is looking forward to kind-hearted souls reaching out and seeing her and her daughter through it all.

"She was a lively little baby until the disease struck. I am looking forward to getting the surgery done and taking her home," said Muir.

"Begging is not something I ever thought I would be resorting to, but I can't allow pride to stand in the way of my daughter's recovery," she said.

Admitting that she has already got a good head start, with the surgery being done for free of cost, Muir said that she just needs this extra push to see everything through.
