Coin shortage to ease this month, says BoJ Governor
Governor of the Bank of Jamaica (BoJ) Brian Wynter says a shortage of coins will ease later this month.
He told Parliament's Economy and Productions Committee Wednesday that there is currently a shortage of $20 coins.
But Wynter said supplies are being brought forward.
In the meantime, he said $10 coins are in adequate supply.
The shortage of coins has affected several services.
In May, the operators of the North South Highway announced an adjustment in toll rates to eliminate the need to give coins as change.
There's no word from the highway operator on whether this will be reversed, when the situation normalises.
Meanwhile, Wynter said the BoJ will soon be embarking on a coin drive aimed at keeping coins in circulation and discouraging "anti- coin" attitudes.
