Carl Wallace, a former driver for a local politician, was set free on charges of rape, assault and illegal possession of firearm when he appeared before the Gun Court Division of the Home Circuit Court in Kingston on Tuesday.

It was alleged that on a particular day in October of 2015, he had assaulted and raped a female complainant at gun point.

During the trial stage, his attorneys, Tom Tavares Finson QC and Donahue Martin Jr, put forward a defence that he and the woman agreed to have sexual intercourse in the back of a motor vehicle he was driving. However, before having sex, he cleared his weapon to make it safe.

The complainant’s credibility was challenged during cross examination based on her conduct before and after the incident.

A no-case submission was made and upheld.
