Phillips concerned about exclusion of region's issues on G20 Summit agenda

Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips has warned that Jamaica and other countries across the region should not ignore the fact that the concerns of developing countries were left off the agenda of the recent G20 Summit in Germany.

Phillips noted that the G20 response was born out of the 2008 global financial  crisis which severely affected developing nation, but argues that last week’s meeting is an indication that the agenda has changed significantly.

He says in the context of dwindling overseas financial support to the region and the continued impact of the global crisis on developing countries it is concerning that CARICOM and other small nations were ignored in the discussions.

The opposition leader says while the world has moved on from the crisis of 2008, the region that was most affected still languishes from the impact.

He was speaking at the 40th anniversary luncheon of the National Association of Jamaican and Supportive Organization (NAJASO) in Montego Bay, last Friday.
