The opposition people's National Party will in 10 days launch an education commission to help the party develop its policy for national education.

PNP President and Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips made the announcement yesterday, the final day of what was a tense National Executive Council conference (NEC) held a The University of the West Indies Mona Campus.

Phillips said the PNP commission is being set up to find solutions to a range of issues now grappling the education system in Jamaica.

Phillips said the two-tier education system with few opportunities for children must be re-examined, suggesting the model has not worked in recent times.

The PNP has also established the Youth Employment, Innovation and the New Economy Commission chaired by Mayberry Investment CEO Gary Peart and a Land  Ownership Commission chaired by attorney-at-law Norman Minott.
