Tryall Fund hands out $9m in scholarships

The Tryall Fund, which is the charitable arm of the Tryall Club in Hanover, recently presented over 70 scholarships valued at $9 million to students from St James and Hanover, to assist with their educational pursuit.

The beneficiaries included students already enrolled at the university, college, high school and preparatory levels as well as new applicants.

"These awardees have all met the academic need for qualification for the scholarships in addition to being recommended by a staff member," said Paula Kovinsky, president of the Tryall Fund, who implored the awardees to "continue to dream, and dream big. Soar with those dreams."

CHALLENGES LIKELY

In congratulating the awardees, Kovinsky warned them that they are likely to face challenges as they pursue their dreams.

"You have worked hard for the things you have achieved. The brick walls you have faced, or may face in the future are there for a reason. Those challenges are there to let you prove how badly you want something and to separate you from the crowd," said Kovinsky.

The scholarship applications were distributed in January to students, who expressed an interest. As a condition, all the applicants had to be recommended by a sponsor, who is an employee of The Tryall Club.

"We have a vested interest in the development of the communities around us. This investment is to create the foundation for future generations," outlined Mitsy Clarke, administrator for the Tryall Fund.

"The scholarship committee of the Tryall Fund works very diligently to give scholarships to as many students who are qualified as possible. We are pleased to support academic excellence in our community and all of Jamaica."
