WINDALCO awards $5.5 million in scholarships and grants
Fifty students pursuing tertiary-level studies at local universities have been awarded scholarships and grants from West Indies Alumina Company (Windalco) totalling J$5.5 million.
The students were awarded at a ceremony at Windalco's Ewarton Works plant recently.
The awards fall under the company's annual local scholarship and grant programme, which provides financial assistance to university students across the island.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Windalco's Managing Director Leonid Stavitskiy pledged to continue to provide financial support to students who qualify.
"For any company, the most precious capital is the human resource. Therefore, Windalco will continue to invest in the development of human resources and the education of children in Jamaica," he said.
In addition to the local scholarships, the company awarded $30,000 to six students who attained more than a 90 per cent average in the Grade Six Achievement Test.
