Top cannabis experts to address CanEx II in MoBay today
Western Bureau:
A number of high-level stakeholders in the expanding cannabis industry are expected in Montego Bay today for the second staging of the CanEx Jamaica Business Conference & Expo, which is poised to bring new attention to the latest developments in the industry.
The event, which will be staged at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, will feature professionals from the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe and North America. It will focus on opportunities for investment, medical development and the legal landscape.
The event, which had its first staging last year at the same venue, features a powerful line-up of speakers and panellists, who will address and discuss a range of matters surrounding the industry, from policy to research, patient access to economic impact.
"One of the key factors that get overlooked is the number of verticals a legal cannabis industry opens up ... from infused spa treatments to topical, effective and safe pain management, to promoting healthy lifestyle choices," said Douglas Gordon, one of the event's organiser. "It's not just a matter of looking at top-line economic impact and its positive translation on a per-capita basis, its understanding that a legal industry opens the door to so many additional opportunities."
"These are some of the opportunities we will seek to explore at this year's event," Gordon added.
Keynote address
Internationally renowned television personality, Montell Williams, who has multiple sclerosis and has been an outspoken advocate for the use of cannabis in treating the autoimmune disease for the past two decades, will give the keynote address.
In addition to Williams, the other renowned speakers include Dr Henry Lowe; four-time NBA champion, John Salleya; and cannabis attorney, Hilary Bricken, of BrickenHarris and the Canna Law Group.
Also confirmed for the event are: Dr Uma Dhana-balan, the chairman of Regulate Florida and a certified cannabis practitioner; Balram Vaswani, of Ganja Inc; Orville Silvera, of the Ganja Growers Association; Larissa Bolivar, head of Grow Green Cannabis, in Colorado; and Delano Seiveright, special adviser to the Ministry of Tourism and a Director of Cannabis Licensing Authority.
