Holness reaching out to Caribbean counterparts after devastating Irma

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has been contacting his counterparts in the region to offer Jamaica’s support in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) says Holness has expressed concern about the damage.

According to Holness, this is a period of assessment and planning to ascertain what Jamaica can do to assist its Caribbean brothers and sisters.

The OPM says the prime minister has been advised by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, that checks have been made about the welfare of Jamaicans on the affected islands.
 
Senator Johnson Smith has reportedly said the ministry will continue to make checks through the embassies and consulates.

The OPM says the Foreign Ministry will update the nation on the status of Jamaicans as the information becomes available.
