The Government is looking at establishing a full campus of the Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) in the parish of St Thomas.

Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Senator Ruel Reid says the Government has particular interest in expanding the university into the parish to drive growth in tandem with the development of the St Thomas leg of the south coast highway.

The Education Minister says the institution, soon to be officially renamed Caribbean Maritime University (CMU), will have a presence in the proposed development for the Morant Bay town centre.

He says there are also plans to extend the institution into other parts of the country.

Senator Reid was speaking at a Think Tank held at the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) head office in Kingston
