Prime Minister Andrew Holness has given the assurance that the security forces will be able to handle maintaining peace in two zones of special operations while also providing security during the three upcoming by-elections.

The Jamaica Defence Force and the Jamaica Constabulary Force have deployed additional numbers to man the two zones in Denham Town, Kingston, and Mount Salem, St James.

In addition they will have to deploy additional personnel for two by-elections in Kingston and another in St Mary on October 30.

At a press conference at Jamaica House yesterday, Holness was asked whether the security forces might be stretched too thinly.

However, he said the appropriate assessments were done to ensure the security forces would be equipped to handle a second ZOSO while fulfilling their other responsibilities.
