The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) is claiming that there has been an increase in politically motivated violence in sections of South East St Mary.
The party wants Police Commissioner George Quallo to take immediate steps to stem these incidents.
In a statement today, the PNP said at least three of its volunteers were viciously attacked in separate incidents in the past week and two party workers had to seek medical attention.
The PNP’s Dr Shane Alexis and Dr Norman Dunn of the governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) are in a tough contest to win the South East St Mary constituency in the October 30 by-election.
The constituency became vacant following the sudden passing of Dr Winston Green in August.
