Jobs on offer at BPO career fair

Hundreds of job-seekers are expected to be in attendance at the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) inaugural BPO (business process outsourcing) Career Fair, to be held at the University of Technology, Alfred Sangster Auditorium, on Friday.
A collaborative effort between JAMPRO, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, the Business Process Industry Association of Jamaica, Heart Trust/NTA and the United States-based Avasant Foundation, the event will be used to provide updates on the local outsourcing sector, which is seen as key to economic growth in Jamaica.
Participants will also have an opportunity to secure employment on the spot.
INSIGHT TO INDUSTRY
"Similar to any industry that is trying to attract people, some may choose to do forums, where you provide a peek into what the industry is about," said Claude Duncan, vice-president of investment promotion at JAMPRO. "We have chosen to use this forum to show what the sector is all about."
"Our event is a way to demystify and give insight to an industry that in large parts has been in the press a lot, but some information is misguided or flatly inaccurate."
Dr Horace Chang, minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, and Senator Ruel Reid, minister of education, youth and information, will participate in the opening ceremony, while development sessions will focus on training and personal development for the participants.
Local BPO operators will also participate in a recruitment exercise, with priority target to include young adults between the ages of 18 and 29 years.
Other presenters will include Gloria Henry, president of the BPIAJ; Diane Edwards, president and CEO of JAMPRO; Yoni Epstein, founder and CEO of leading local outsourcing firm itelBPO Smart Solutions; and James Lee, director at Avasant Foundation.
