Clarendon police chief questions security force's role in clearing roadblocks

As protests over poor road conditions get more frequent, the head of the Clarendon Police Division is questioning whether it is the sole responsibility of the police to clear roadblocks.

At yesterday’s sitting of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation, commanding officer of the Clarendon Police, Senior Superintendent Vendolyn Cameron Powell, said she wanted to clarify the situation and posed the question to members of the corporation.

SSP Cameron told the meeting that she had made enquiries at the National Solid Waste Management Authority and the Jamaica Fire Brigade but both agencies said it was not their responsibility.

The Clarendon police chief says it cannot be the sole responsibility of the police to clear roadblocks.

She says all these agencies collaborate with the police during times of natural disaster and suggests that the same should be done during times of public unrest.
