Commish orders investigation into arrest of mother who reported 7-y-o son's assault by students

​Police Commissioner George Quallo has intervened in the case of a woman who was arrested by the Trelawny Police after she went to report that her seven-year-old son was assaulted by older students at the Clarke’s Town Primary School.

Quallo says he has instructed the Inspectorate of the Constabulary to conduct an investigation into the incident that led the police to arrest the woman and charge her with disorderly conduct.

In a statement today, Quallo says he has instructed members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Chaplaincy Branch to make contact with the mother and the family and offer whatever assistance it can provide.

Amid the public outcry over the actions of the cops, head of the Trelawny Police Superintendent Dwight Powell told The Gleaner/Power106 News Centre on Wednesday that the order to arrest the woman came from the nearby court.

Powell says it was indicated that the woman was irate and was behaving in a manner that caused a disturbance at the court.

However, the Court Management Services has refuted that assertion, saying there was no such order from the presiding judge or the court in relation to the matter.

The Education Ministry has already launched an investigation into the alleged attack on the seven-year-old boy.
