Nurses have agreed to return to work after staging a two-day sick-out to express their dissatisfaction over wage talks with the government.

The agreement was reached during an emergency meeting called by the Ministry of Labour.

Speaking after the meeting, nurses' association president Carmen Johnson appealed to members to return to work.

However, Johnson said normality may not be restored until Saturday morning with the 7 o' clock shift.

She also said the Finance Ministry has undertaken to indicate by Monday when the wage negotiations will resume.

Since Thursday, services have been reduced to emergencies only at many of the island's health care facilities as nurses stay off the job.

The nurses are reportedly upset over government's six per cent wage offer over two years, as well as a freeze in benefits and allowances over the period.
