Member of Parliament for North Trelawny, Victor Wright, has given a one-off scholarship valued at $180,000 for six of the top performing students of his alma mater, the William Knibb Memorial School in Trelawny.

The top student will get $50,000, while the top agricultural student will be given $35,000.

The scholarship will also award a $25,000 prize for the two top girls and two top boys outside of those categories.

The monies from the scholarship will go toward the tertiary educational costs of the winning students.

Mr Wright, who was a top agriculture student at the school and who is now a trained agronomist, said he deliberately included a prize for agriculture because he thinks it can drive economic growth and bring change to the constituency he represents.

The MP made the announcement at the school’s graduation on Thursday.
