Mega arms bust raises troubling questions, says Montague

National Security Minister Robert Montague says the interception of 117 guns destined for Jamaica raises several troubling questions.

The weapons including high-powered rifles were seized at the Miami International Airport on November 13.

According to Montague, the arms bust is the result of cooperation between Jamaican and American law enforcers.

He is now questioning who is paying for these guns being purchased for use in Jamaica.

Montague also questioned whether someone is preparing to challenge the state or to go to war.

In the meantime, counsellor for public affairs at the United States embassy in Kingston, Jeremiah Knight, says the embassy is aware of the gun and ammunition seizure.

But he says the authorities in Miami are still investigating.
