St Catherine councillors accuse NSWMA of gross inefficiency

Peoples National Party (PNP) Councillors attending the St Catherine Municipal Corporation final meeting of the year yesterday accused the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) of gross inefficiency.

Despite assurances from NSWMA Parish Officer, Linden Thomas, that the agency had worked out its transportation problems and would provide improved services throughout the festive season, Deputy Mayor, Ralston Wilson, expressed dissatisfaction with the pile-up of garbage in Browns Hall.

Wilson contended that the problem at the NSWMA had to do with how it manages garbage trucks and not a shortage of trucks.

Other councillors used the opportunity to highlight problems with garbage collection in their divisions.

However, Thomas assured the councillors that there were plans to do collections twice a day during the holiday season and this would prevent the possibility of a pile-up.
