Cayman taxi driver charged with death of Jamaican doctor

A 70-year-old taxi driver in the Cayman Islands has been charged with the death of Jamaican medical doctor, Vary Jones-Leslie.
The taxi driver, who was not identified by the police, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by careless driving after the crash at Owen Roberts International Airport on July 17, 2017.
The taxi driver is scheduled to appear in court on February 5.
Sixty-two-year-old Jones-Leslie, an obstetrician and gynaecologist, had arrived in the Cayman Islands for a temporary shift at the Cayman Islands Hospital, where she was a substitute to assist local physicians.
The police report that the doctor was attempting to walk across the three-lane Owen Roberts Drive just north of the airport terminal around 10:45 in the morning when she was struck.
The taxi van that hit her showed significant damage on the right side of its hood.
She died a day after the crash.
