Gov't to ensure state of emergency detainees have adequate resources – Holness

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the government is moving to ensure that adequate resources are in place for detainees under the state of public emergency.

Prime Minister Holness says he’s aware of complaints in the public domain and is monitoring the situation.

He explains that at the time of the declaration of the state of public emergency resources were in place to accommodate detainees, but he says the rate of arrests has outstripped the initial resources.

This morning, the security forces said 197 persons are in custody.

Prime Minister Holness says the government will ensure that the rights of detainees are upheld.

Meanwhile, Holness says the authorities are working to thwart the actions of criminals and others who are seeking to drive a wedge and create discord among members of the security forces operating in the state of public emergency.

He says the government will not allow these elements to undermine unity among the security forces.
