Minister with responsibility for the Environment Daryl Vaz says the ministry will be boosting its efforts to educate Jamaicans about the devastating impacts of natural disasters and climate change ahead of the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 and ends on November 30.

Vaz was speaking at today's launch of the ministry’s climate change campaign ‘Smart and Steady, Get Climate Ready’ where he said too many Jamaicans still do not make themselves aware of the issues surrounding climate change.

“This campaign is designed to place climate change at the forefront of the thinking among the average citizen. It is a welcomed addition to the public outreach and the campaign will also foster dialogue to build resilience,” he said.

Vaz stressed that Jamaicans should seek to understand the link between climate change and the impact on their livelihoods.

Underscoring that climate change adaptation is critical, he urged Jamaica and other small island developing states to take climate change seriously.
